Soul Eater Rules! (Day 25)

Haven't been playing to much recently. Been distracted by the drugs known as World Of Warcraft and Lost. I'm about halfway through the game at this point though. I've got 3 Crystals so far, Earth, Fire and Water and all the jobs that come with them, including the Dark Knight. Dark Knight is the most over powered class at this point in the game due to the skill Soul Eater. It is your standard you take damage to deal damage move, but it hits every monster and deals a HUGE amount of damaged compared to how much you lose. You lose about 60 HP when using it to deal about 800-1200 damage to each monster. At this point in the game, that's enough to kill almost any monster (aside from bosses of course) in 1 hit.

This game has flaws similar to Final Fantasy 2 in that you can get dominated out of no where. I'll grind for a while, cruise through a dungeon for an hour only to get 1 shotted by the boss. Very annoying. Another annoying part of the game is, what I like to call, "Job Change Sickness". Basically, whenever you change jobs, your stats suck for X amount of fights. This to me just seems silly. Even if you change from say a Black Mage to a White Mage then immedatly back into a Black Mage, you still get Job Change Sickness. There is also no optimize option when equipping your characters, so changing jobs removes all of their equipment forcing you to remember to go back and re-equip everything. I can understand that the original would have no optimize, but the remake definitely should have it.

Other then that, the game is pretty awesome. Much improved over Final Fantasy 2 and I'm very disappointed it was never released in America. The job system, despite it's minor annoyances is still pretty cool and provides some pretty cool reply value to the game. They even improved the Story Line character issue by just adding them as an outside force i.e. they follow you around and only randomly participate in battles, so no working up/equiping is required. Once they're done with the story, they just leave, no harm done.

I've also been looking at copies of Final Fantasy 7 and it looks like the price on Ebay has gone up again to about 30-60 bucks. It was down for a while once they announced you could download it off the Playstation Network for a PS3. I'll have to start loooking into it again when I get to Final Fantasy VI...
